The recent news that is straightaway coming from Microsoft is that the most popular programming model of developers, .NET has been open sourced to OS X, Linux, Mac along with Windows. This is the official and the latest announcement that Microsoft has made after April when it decided to open source a number of its development techniques, which included Roslyn, ASP.NET, .NET Micro Framework, .NET compiler platform, and many more. Now, Microsoft has decided to add more pieces of .NET to the list of its open sourcing options.

Other than this, Microsoft has also made available its free versions of Visual Studio Community 2013. These steps exhibits Microsoft’s willingness to work with a wide range of developers on diverse platforms. The .NET framework is now available to the software developers of Linux and Mac.

According to Somasegar, the corporate Vice-President of the developer division of Microsoft, .”Through Visual Studio and .NET we are committed to delivering a comprehensive end-to-end solution for developers to build and manage applications across multiple devices and platforms,”

If one looks at the latest times gone by of Microsoft, the recent announcement is not extremely shocking. Predictably, the company is planning to work with the Mono community, which is sponsored by Xamarin. Mono community already produces an open source, cross platform of .NET, which is based on the framework of C#.

The people at Microsoft wants .NET to be displayed on a broader platform, which they think can only be done by taking taking .NET to new platforms. To start the conversation, Microsoft has also planned to arrange a GitHub repository with the .NET. What will exactly emerge out of all this is still a surprise.

To protect the interest of the developers, Microsoft has also proclaimed a patent agreement that will cover this mono project and those who will implement this. This move by Microsoft is probably a next rational step, although it appears more like a gallop.

Konstant Infosolutions has pondered over this announcement of Microsoft as we are also the certified partners of Microsoft. We have always powered new and innovative web development projects for which we have been honored with the badge of being the partners of esteemed Microsoft.
