The name Google is now synonymous with pioneering inventions and the onset of new technology. And the latest project in this department is a new tablet that is said to have advanced 3D imaging capabilities. The new tablet, which is a part of Google\u2019s latest Project Tango, will feature the ability to capture 3 dimensional images of objects.<\/p>\n

This latest offering from Google is still in the works and has no official release date as yet, however the Wall Street Journal revealed that the Android tablet<\/a>, which showcases a 7 inch screen, will come with 2 rear facing cameras, proprietary imaging software, gyroscopes, orientation sensors and infrared depth sensors, all of which will work together to create a 3 dimensional model of the object being captured by the cameras.<\/p>\n

The Project Tango was first revealed by Google in February, 2014 as part of their goal to outfit Android systems with the ability to carry out realistic 3D based image mapping and help users enjoy this realistic virtual experience. The 7 inch 3D tablet utilizes its sensors to carry out over 250 million measurements per second to engineer a 3D model of the object. According to the Journal, Google plans to develop 4,000 units of the tablet to test how it does in the market before moving onto further production.<\/p>\n

Project Tango is a part of Google\u2019s Advanced Technology and Projects division, inherited by Google upon its acquisition of Motorola Mobility. The real world applications of this technology are nearly limitless and that is what Google is trying to tap into with the use of smartphones and tablets. Such devices can be used to capture realistic 3D images of surrounding, which could be used to help visually impaired members of the public find their way around unfamiliar layouts. The same technology can also be utilized for refurbishment of homes and buildings by creating a 3D map of the layout. On the entertainment side of things, 3D imaging can also be used for gaming purposes by turning open spaces into 3D gaming environments.<\/p>\n

Google plans to reveal this technology next month within the 4,000 tablet units at its annual developer conference. The hope is that Google will provide developers with access to the software to allow them to experiment with it and come up with unique Android apps<\/a> that will utilize the software to help users solve more problems by using the advantages offered by 3D imagery.<\/p>\n
