Microsoft Hits the Rocky Road of Hardware with Surface Pro 3

The city of New York witnessed an exceptional event a few days back, which was the unveiling of the Surface Pro 3 by software giant Microsoft. Among all the clattering and enthusiasm, Panos Panay, the head of the Surface Pro team introduced the device which he claimed will make you replace your laptop with. The Surface Pro 3 is an upgraded version of the Surface Pro 2 which emerged in the market in October last year. While addressing the audience Panay voluntarily dropped Windows’ latest creation and picked it back up saying, “It doesn’t break”. Every consumer faces a turmoil of thoughts when it comes to deciding between the purchase of a laptop and a tablet. The Surface Pro 3 is all set to reduce the depletion layer between laptops and tablets and acts as a perfect substitute for both.

With a thickness of 9.1mm, the Surface Pro 3 is more sleeker than its predecessor and weights 800 grams. Even with the Type Cover attached, the device is extensively lighter and slimmer than its counterparts. The battery backup of the Surface Pro 3 has been enhanced 15-20 % further than the Surface Pro 2, which leads to more work credits being added. Interestingly, Surface Pro 3 is the most compact Intel Core device ever produced. The screen size has been increased to 12 which swanks a resolution of 2160 by 1440. The stylus has an elegant design which literally depicts a real pen. It provides a sphere of unique functions which include the switching on of the Surface Pro 3 by a single tap followed by the OneNote ready for use. One can edit pictures taken from the camera app by implementing a new layer to it. Windows has made sure that the user faces negligible parallax issues and experiences writing just like as on paper. The kickstand attached is adjustable to any angle which suits the user’s preference.

Other key features of the Surface Pro 3 include two cameras of 5MP each at the front and the back, USB 3.0 slot for rapid data transfer, an additional magnet sealing the keyboard on the device for better stability. The Surface Pro 3 is believed to accord tough competition to the likes of MacBook Air in terms of price, weight, features and durability. Along with the hardware refurbishment, there have also been some software modifications which include 13% more screen content than the 13-inch MacBook Air and an exclusive Photoshop CC for the Surface Pro 3 which boasts a touch optimized interface for improved zooming, panning and editing.

The basic model of the Surface 3 Pro which has 4 GB of RAM, 4GB of storage capacity and Intel Core i3, will come at a price of $799. One can surf to higher storage capacity options, which are 64 GB to 512 GB and processors ranging from core i5 to i7. A full-feature stashed model of the Surface Pro 3 will make the buyer weight down $1949 at the dealer’s. The Surface Pro 3 is available for pre orders in the US and Canada and the deliveries will start from June 20 onwards. As for the Indian market, there is no confirmation for the exact date when this striking product will be surfacing for the buyers. The head of Microsoft division in India, Amrish Goyal, explains the reason for the remote possibility by saying that the pricing of Surface Pro 3 might not be suitable for Indian buyers.

Despite the continued assertions of revolutionizing the technical scenario, Microsoft will have to accept the fact that they might by frolicking a gamble which might be costly. It will be an interesting feat to observe Microsoft striving for a similar dignitary position in the hardware segment. The features of Surface Pro 3 are compelling but the idea of making users switch their workplace to a smaller and relativity less sturdy device sounds quite unlikely as of yet.
