Veterinary Consulting Firm offers services to monitor animal health programs, medicines and equipment for cattle in the United States!

We connected with Rob Conn, from the United States of America, to build a project on a veterinary consulting firm. It is a website that works as a group purchase organization for the US veterinary industry. Veterinary Consulting Firm manages veterinary practices and concerned vendors operating in the United States, sending requests for bulk purchasing of veterinary equipment and products from various vendors who are part of the Veterinary Consulting Firm vendor pool.

Idea – Veterinary Consulting Firm

Veterinary Consulting Firm is an online portal for Vet Practices operating across the United States.

  • Practices use the portal to request veterinary medicines and items available on the portal.
  • The veterinary items/medicines/equipment will offer vendors (manufacturer & distributors). Super admin will create respective accounts.
  • Multiple Vendors and Super Admin will receive the requests on their respective web panels.
  • After receiving item requests, vendors will add the item prices against the requested items. The system will select the lowest price offered by the distributors and manufacturers.
  • The system will have two more user roles – Call center & Field concierge and a separate web panel being a part of Super Admin’s management team.

User Modules – Roles and Responsibilities

This project consists of four main modules – Practice, vendor, field concierge, call center.

Practice:

  • A front-end user uses the site:
  • To register/login and browse/search products
  • To apply filters and order/request items.
  • The website keeps track of order history.

Call-Center:

  • A front-end user uses the site to:
  • View all the practices details (profile and order history)
  • Request on behalf of the practices
  • View vendor details
  • Upload their products using .csv/.exl upload
  • Add/update Buying group discount on sub-categories
  • View and update own profile
  • Browse/search products and apply filters
  • Modify and Update prices for items after a request from the practice
  • Add Alternative items on behalf of practices.

Concierge/Field concierge:

  • A front-end user uses the site:
  • To view all the practices details (profile and order history)
  • To view and update your profile.
  • Browse/search products and apply filters

Vendor:

  • A front-end user uses the site:
  • To receive item requests.
  • To modify/add prices.
  • To receive confirmation requests after acceptance by the system.
  • To view order history.

What were the assumptions and constraints?

  • The default medium of this website is English.
  • It is available only in the United States.
  • It can work online only.
  • It requires disabling peripheral devices on all website pages as it does not allow copy and paste
  • The website implements IP detection and blocking to not allow IPs from outside the US to access the site.
  • The client provides all third-party APIs, hosting, domain etc.
  • The website implements an admin theme for the super admin panel for the user interface.
  • The website has a desktop version, a mobile/iPad version and a web version.

How did the team catch up with the development journey?

With support from top-level management, pro-identification and management of risk, commitment and ownership from team members, practice schedules and feasible budgets, we headed with specific goals and deliverables to achieve. We simultaneously followed a measurable, attainable, relevant and time-bound approach with development best practices to achieve the desired solution. Resolving conflicts and mitigating risks midway, we were successful in doing that.

What role did project management play in the success of the project?

  • The Project Manager was by the sides of the development team right through the initiation, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing of the project.
  • They kept the communication flowing throughout the project.
  • They ensured that the team sticks to their plan, prioritized the tasks according to upcoming project demands, require tracking hours against the available budget, ensure that the project completes within the allocated budget.
  • Simultaneously, they manage client expectations.
  • They allocated resources and decide the time spent on all individual tasks by the team.
  • The project manager was the primary lead in the development chain to develop and mediate ideas.
  • They assembled the team to achieve the solution, delegated the tasks to individual members, Estimated the projected costs needed to complete the project over the defined period
  • Managed funds and resources
  • They identified, evaluated, and prevented or mitigated risks to a project.
  • They often coached, trained and mentored the team.
