It’s a big day for Google and Android smartphone owners that the next major update Android 8.0 will now be officially named as the sweetest Oreo. Here’s the list of key features.

To no one’s surprise, Google has named its latest 8.0 Android version as OREO.

Chopping and changing between Oreo, Oatmeal cookie, Orangina and many other Orange -flavoredsweets, Google has literally toyed with the hearts of many Android enthusiasts- which also included our expert team of Android developers.

Thinking the wildest, our Android developers have pulled their hair out what if Google name it as Android Octopus. Seriously ?

Now, we can all relax when the name has been officially announced.

It was last evening in New York City that Google has given rest to this naming speculation and unveiled most of the unique and breakthrough features of this 11th version update of Android- most-loved OS with the largest market share followed by Apple iOS. On the day of Solar Eclipse in the US- 21/08/2017, the big name was licensed. Owners of Google Pixel and Pixel XL will be the first devices to have this latest version of Android on their phones.

With Oreo, we can imagine it to be sweeter than its previous siblings. Ahead of its download, Google has announced the highlights of Android 8.0, know them below.

A dynamic Background

Google has completely changed the way it deals with the background applications. In the new 8.0 Oreo, some apps will work differently and you are sure to save hugely on your battery life. So, if a music app is running in the background, your favorite song will keep playing but Facebook won’t refresh your feeds when running at the back, which will definitely consume less mobile data and thus, promises a lower battery consumption. Oreo will play smart and idle these apps on its own.

Android app developers need to work meticulously and use more specific job schedulers and receivers, which will ensure efficient and intelligent waking up of background apps to perform the tasks.

Picture-in-Picture Video

The dream of having a floating video player on your phone is now a reality. This Picture-in-Picture (PiP) video mode started with the Android Nougat for Android TVs will now be available on your mobile device. Users can now watch the minimized videos on their smartphone screen while performing other tasks or when you have switched to the home screen. The tiny video screen will float at the corner of the screen. Only your app needs to have support for PiP videos. Typically, Chrome, YouTube, VLC and some of the popular media players already support this video format.

This is just a teaser; Google is yet to show the more powerful and more persuasive Android Oreo on the smartphone screens. There will be some awesome user-facing additions like adaptive notification dots, 60 new inbuilt emojis, robust and user-friendly media notifications, quick settings menu, Bluetooth audio improvements, Google Play Protect to improve on the security and privacy and much more.

A little more wait for the existing Android users as Google will take a couple of more months to make it available. But yes, if you’re a Nexus or Pixel owner, you’ll soon have the update.
