A UDID is a unique identifier that Apple associates to a device; just in the same was as IMEI numbers are attached to Android Phones. Every iphone device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) comes with a 40 character alphanumeric string along with a 24 character identifier with a dash after 8 digit, this makes every device unique.
How UDID works?
- The UDID project has been initiated by the Department of Empowerment of People with Disabilities aiming to help them with issuance of universal ID and Disability Certificates for Person with Disabilities with their identification and disability details. It essentially includes:
- This makes the data available to the person anywhere, anytime while they are travelling.
- UDID helps in case they submit an online application for job/exam/course
- Having a UDID speeds up the assessment process by calculating percentage of disability by the concerned medical organization/board
- UDID card can be renew and update any information online on the person’s behalf
- UDID helps in managing interoperability of the benefits/schemes launched by the Government for PwD as it works on MIS reporting framework
- UDID has the scope to be upgraded in case the number of disabilities goes beyond 7.
How UDID Helps?
Knowing UDID helps people with disabilities as they do not tend to remember the numbers or keep multiple copies of documents, as the card will capture and then has to be decoded with the help of a reader.
