We are living in strange times, so it is more important now than ever to be compassionate with yourself. Earlier you didn’t have to understand your technology because you could go bother your pal from IT. Now he’s at his home hundreds of miles away and he’s also trying to figure out how to keep all the servers running even though the entire workforce is in different places. Earlier you didn’t have to think about other people’s schedules because they were always sitting right there. Now you will have to empathize enough to remember people’s lives.
You don’t have to be productive 100% of the time. Some days, just doing the absolute bare minimum is all that can be managed, and that’s perfectly okay. Those who succeed in the coming years will be those who were built for this time. Permit yourself to feel stress, but don’t let it consume you. Relieved of the big group and meetings, great work can still be done in isolation. Tell yourself that it will pass and you’re strong enough to get through it. The more stressed you’re feeling, the more important it is to remind yourself of that.
When everything feels like walking off into the sunset, with all gadgety distractions around, do you know what’s being touted as the skillset required to thrive in the next decade or century? You can thrive and be ‘indistractable’. Mastering internal triggers, being smart with our gadgets and messaging less – there’s so much we can do to put it in its place.
Some of us structure their day with cups of tea, and undoubtedly there are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea. Tea is very healing.
Drinking morning tea with family and afternoon tea with colleagues – you might get some nuggets of wisdom from life learnings of your closest ones. Sharing morning tea with our family grounds us, makes us humble and empathetic. If you are cold, it will warm you; if you are too heated, it will cool you; if you are depressed, it will cheer you; if you are excited, it will calm you.
Likewise wearing a smile and sharing a cup of tea with colleagues reconnects us and relieves us of all the work-from-home stress. So we had a virtual tea connect session over the first weekend of the month. Coordinating and managing different tasks, showing appreciation for the team and some casual laughter. Tea makes the best combination with a fine sentiment and best companions. We are celebrating life, even in isolation and gradually getting ready for new world order, cheers!
Always think that you are working in the office itself and plan your day accordingly.
