If you feel like assisting the ones who need some help with their routine tasks, find quick tips here to create an app like TaskRabbit!

TaskRabbit was founded in 2008 as RunMyErrand and was later renamed as TaskRabbit in 2010. Based in San Francisco California, USA, TaskRabbit service is available across Atlanta, Boston, Austin, Houston, Phoenix, LA & OC, Portland, Washington DC, San Antonio, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Denver, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Diego, SF Bay Area, and one international location as London for now and it can help you out with chores, hang your shelves, clean fans, door handles, window panes, run errands, paint the walls, clean those cobwebs that are not-reachable, pick up the clutter and rearrange that closet (everything that seems manageable but requires a little bit of an effort). They work on a crowdsourced marketplace model with the TaskPosters willing to outsource small-doable tasks, connected to Taskrabbits who are willing to take up those tasks. They have over 50 full-time employees who work in the San Francisco office and about 50,000 runners signed up on the platform (as of October 2020). Let’s find out more!

Who Makes Use of TaskRabbit?

This app is used by two different sets of users: Taskers and Task Posters. Both these parties have to be on either side of the exchange. Users on both ends must have their separate user interface that is optimized for their needs.

TaskersTask Posters
These people have to do the tasks assigned by Task Posters. These people find tasks wherein users need some help with their household tasks.
These people are freelancers who work on a contractual basis just to earn some quick money.Their target audience is mostly elderly people who need a helping hand or those who are busy with their work.
They have to sign up on the app and add their details.
They also have to undergo a background check TaskRabbit uses the social security number, the applicant’s complete legal name and date of birth to verify the applicant’s identity, an interview, or a quiz and the final selection is done by Task Posters.

How Does TaskRabbit Work?

This will work differently but in conjunction with the customer’s side and the tasker’s side. There are two interfaces – one is the Customer’s Interface or Task Poster’s interface where all tasks are posted and the other is the Tasker’s interface where they check allotted jobs. So in short,

  1. So you need to post a job with your contact details
  2. As soon as a professional is available, they pick the job
  3. They come to your location and get the job done
  4. The payment is made by the Job Poster

How Does This Process Work On Task Poster’s Side?

  1. The customer needs to select from a list of categories – packing and moving, handyman, cleaning, personal assistance etc.
  2. Add a description – about the work details, date, and time for the work, address required skills etc.
  3. Compare the taskers with those that are available and select the one who is best suitable for your task according to their skills. Tasker’s charge by the hour. They are independent contractors who might set their rates based on skills and experience or the distance, therefore their hourly rates vary.
  4. Users have an option to chat with their selected tasker about anything specific regarding the task assignment, their commute, payment clarification, skills, their availability or anything relevant.
  5. As the task gets completed, the payment can be done there itself in cash or through the app (contactless payment)

How Does This Process Work On Taskdoer’s Side?

  1. A TaskDoer gets himself registered with the TaskRabbit App
  2. They need to fill up their relevant contact details, skills, experience
  3. These details are cross-checked by the Application Administrators Team
  4. TaskRabbits/Taskdoer applicant need to go through a background check and interview process
  5. All these details are updated on the app
  6. Taskers have an option to update their hourly prices, location and other relevant details
  7. Taskers also have an option to accept or reject the offer given to them

What is TaskRabbit Revenue Model?

TaskRabbit connects the service seekers with service providers. So the major part of revenue earnings comes from those who assign tasks on the app. TaskRabbit receives a commission once every task is completed successfully. This commission is an expense for using the platform that the app offers. It includes the charges for maintenance, insurance, customer support and other additional services that the app offers. This amount is paid to the tasker along with their hourly service fees. Once the task poster makes the online payment, 15% of it is deducted by the company and the rest is transferred to Tasker’s account. Payment in cash is intimated to the company with receipt of the transaction.

TaskRabbit adds a 7.5% trust and support fee to each invoice. This fee directly goes to the company to facilitate the exchange and offer support to the app user.

TaskRabbit does hike their prices during the peak season – festivals – holidays, due to high demand and priority.

TaskRabbit also charges advertisement charges for the users who want to be shown in top search results for better visibility.

What is TaskRabbit Business Model – How Does TaskRabbit Make Money?

TaskRabbit is an online peer-to-peer marketplace that connects consumers with local help. They offer same day service or scheduled service. The company works on commission and service charges that they deduct from the fees that consumers pay.

But the company soon shifted towards the standard pricing model. The highest-rated taskers are available on premium.
