Background

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m an economic officer in the transport division of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. At the time of the project, I was dealing with issues surrounding road safety. I was working with experts from our member states on the UN Convention on Road Signs and Signals.

Opportunity/Challenge

What challenge were you trying to address with Konstant Infosolutions?

We wanted an electronic platform dedicated to road signs, featuring their descriptions and definitions in addition to having the ability to search and display relevant information. We already had PDF versions of the sign images and convention rules, but we wanted an interactive system to make the process easier for users. Because there are multiple applicable variations for specific signs, users occasionally do not follow the correct legal provisions. To solve this issue, the electronic system would display all information with clarity and accuracy. The system needed to allow users to edit specific signs and it had to have cross-platform capabilities.

Solution

What was the scope of their involvement?

The system was nonexistent, so they had to develop the platform from scratch. We gave Konstant our ideas on how everything should look, including the landing page, menus, and the various pages for signs as per the provisions of the convention. Their team created a platform architecture that divides the signs into classes, making it easier to select the correct sign according to its definition and description. With the architecture, we can perform administrative tasks on the backend, as well. They produced the code on Drupal, and the entire platform operates on Linux, with an Apache web server.

What is the team composition?

They provided a project manager who was our main point of contact. She managed the team of developers.

How did you come to work with Konstant Infosolutions?

Konstant was hired for this project by a third party. As a disclaimer, we had no role in the research or proposal process when hiring them.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from April 2017–August 2018. Although the project was supposed to be complete sooner, we were dependent on various external elements and had to delay the platform’s implementation.

Results & Feedback

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They developed the code for the platform on our organizations’ system and did it well. We were able to test, modify, and implement their work to our satisfaction.

How did Konstant Infosolutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We had regular meetings over Skype for progress updates and to identify any issues on either side. Their responsive approach allowed us to save a lot of time by avoiding miscommunications. The project manager they provided was available throughout every stage. We knew that if we had a question or issue, we could call them and have it solved quickly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We valued that they provided a team leader who acted as a liaison and interpreter between us and the developers. It can sometimes be difficult to understand the technical languages developers use, so having someone break it down for us was very helpful. I also appreciated the direct communication I had with their team because nothing was miscommunicated. Their flexible approach helped them find solutions to any issues that arose. They were willing to put in the extra work if it meant getting the result we wanted.

Are there any areas they could improve?

If you have a project that isn’t fully defined, you should be prepared to be flexible about the timeline. They are a quick team, but when something arises outside of the initial plan, the budget and deadlines may need to be reworked. Make sure you have the resources necessary before making these scope changes.
